IGAD Welcomes Sudan’s Return to the Organization and Commends President Guelleh’s Efforts

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) welcomed Sudan’s decision to resume its full participation in the organization.

In a statement issued today (Monday), IGAD Executive Secretary Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu described Sudan’s return as a reaffirmation of regional solidarity and a collective commitment to peace, stability, and cooperation throughout the region. He noted that Sudan’s renewed participation, as a founding member state, strengthens IGAD’s unity and enhances its capacity to address shared regional priorities.

Workneh expressed his deep appreciation to His Excellency Ismail Omar Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti and current Chair of IGAD, for his leadership and constructive engagement in guiding this process. He commended the President’s unwavering commitment to dialogue and consensus-building to promote regional cohesion. The Secretariat reiterated its readiness to work closely with the Republic of Sudan to reach a peaceful solution to address current challenges and support a secure and prosperous future for the Sudanese people and the region as a whole
