Istanbul Declaration in Support of Sudan
The Islamic Appeal Organization (MADA), in cooperation with the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) and the Islamic Scholars Foundation, held a consultative forum to mobilize support for the Sudanese people, who are suffering from war and destruction, and the resulting severe humanitarian consequences. This necessitates strengthening cooperation and coordination among humanitarian organizations and institutions to improve support and assistance efforts.
The forum was held under the slogan:
“Together to Strengthen Humanitarian Partnerships to Support Sudan”
It was generously hosted by the Council of Islamic Scholars in Istanbul.
The opening session was addressed by Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Adam, Secretary-General of the Islamic Appeal Organization and Chairman of its Board of Directors. Osman Buqaji, Sheikh Dr. Essam Ahmed Al-Bashir, a representative of the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), and His Excellency the Consul General of the Republic of Sudan, Ambassador Osama Mahjoub, along with a number of scholars, intellectuals, and humanitarian officials, affirmed their solidarity and full support for the Sudanese people.
Participants discussed several papers and reports related to the humanitarian situation in Sudan, programs to support those affected by the war, and ways to support voluntary return.
At the conclusion of the deliberations, the participants affirmed the following:
1- Firm support for the Sudanese people during the relief, reconstruction, and rebuilding phases.
2- Dedicating material and human resources to support those affected in displacement camps within Sudan and in refugee communities outside the country.
3. Developing mechanisms to address the challenges of voluntary return and build the capacity of affected communities.
4. Utilizing media resources to highlight the scale of the Sudanese tragedy and strengthen advocacy efforts in international forums.
5. Commending Sudanese and international humanitarian efforts and calling for increased relief and development support.
6. Recognizing the efforts of Sudanese organizations and civil society, and emphasizing cooperation and partnership with them.
7. Establishing a permanent mechanism for joint consultation and coordination regarding Sudan, and strengthening the role of the humanitarian alliance established in April 2024.
8. Agreeing to organize an international conference to support Sudan during the first half of 2026, to be prepared meticulously and systematically.
9. Inviting the General Secretariat of the Islamic Appeal Organization to prepare a comprehensive report on the forum’s deliberations and distribute it to the participants.
10. Expressing gratitude to the Islamic Appeal Organization, the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), the Islamic Scholars Foundation, and all participants.
11- Thanking the Government of the Republic of Turkey and NGOs for their great humanitarian efforts in supporting Sudan.
