From Khartoum… Presidential Meeting Approves 2026 Budget

A joint meeting of the Sovereignty Council and the Council of Ministers, which acts as the transitional legislative body, approved the state’s emergency budget for the 2026 fiscal year and several other laws today (Wednesday).

The meeting, held at the Khartoum State government headquarters, was chaired by Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah al-Burhan. This comes as the “Government of Hope,” headed by Dr. Kamil Idris, resumes its duties in Khartoum, according to a statement issued by the Sovereignty Council.

Following the meeting, Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism, Khalid al-Aisir, stated in a press release that “this meeting is the first for the two councils in 2026 and represents the practical launch of the return of the executive government, with all its components, to work from the national capital, Khartoum.”

He added, “We, along with all members of the Sovereignty Council led by Burhan, the Prime Minister, and the Government of Hope, are pleased to announce to our people that we are now carrying out our duties from the heart of Khartoum.”

The minister appealed to all citizens to return to their homes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to reciprocating the heroic stances demonstrated by the Sudanese people over the past years in restoring Khartoum to its rightful place andpp normalcy.

At the end of last December, the Sudanese Council of Ministers approved the 2026 budget from its temporary headquarters in the administrative capital, Port Sudan. The budget aims to achieve a GDP growth rate of approximately 9 percent and reduce the average inflation rate during 2026 to 65 percent.
