Cabinet Holds its First Meeting of 2026 in the National Capital, Khartoum

The Cabinet held its first meeting of 2026, chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris, this afternoon in the national capital, Khartoum.

Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism, Mr. Khalid Al-Eisir, said in a press statement that the convening of this first Cabinet meeting marks the official and practical return of the executive government, with its entire staff, to work from within the national capital, Khartoum. He indicated that the Cabinet session addressed a number of different topics, including the issue of tolls on national highways, which the government has reviewed and will issue decisions on soon.

He indicated that the Cabinet meeting was reassured by the return of the Hope Government to the national capital, Khartoum, through a briefing presented by the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Lamia Abdel Ghaffar Khalafallah. The Cabinet also listened to a detailed report on efforts to combat smuggling and drugs, presented by the Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Babiker Samra Mustafa.

Al-Eisir explained that the Cabinet discussed the Prime Minister’s vision for major projects, noting in this regard that the Hope Government has adopted a number of projects that will guide the state’s strategy in the coming phase.

He revealed that the Cabinet meeting reviewed the government data and transactions exchange platform (Baladna), and a report on the status of digital transformation and network connectivity in the country, presented by the Minister of Digital Transformation and Communications, Engineer Ahmed Dardiri Ghandour. He added that the Cabinet also listened to a report on the performance of the 2025/2026 summer agricultural season, and the indicative plan for the 2026 winter agricultural season, which promises high productivity in winter crops, presented by the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Professor Ismat Qurashi.

Al-Eisir also indicated that the Cabinet meeting addressed the issue of cultural industries and the need for Sudan to become a leading country in tourism projects, with these projects advancing within the framework of cultural work that strengthens national cohesion.

The Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism affirmed that this first Cabinet session marked the beginning of the executive government’s work from the heart of the capital, Khartoum, and confirmed that all ministries had relocated to the national capital.

He expressed his delight at the Hope Government’s official launch, its active presence in addressing the issues of the Sudanese nation, and its work to support the armed forces from the national capital, Khartoum. He conveyed the Hope Government’s gratitude to the Sudanese people, who have remained steadfast in their national spirit and their unwavering support for the political and military leadership, which is now working diligently to restore Khartoum to its former glory and facilitate the return of its citizens. He pledged that the Hope Government would continue to work with unparalleled dedication, patience, and enthusiasm to ensure the return of all citizens to their homes. He extended a direct invitation to all Khartoum residents, particularly the youth, to voluntarily return to the national capital and its three cities, so that the process of facilitating the return of citizens and the restoration of normalcy could begin.

The Cabinet, in its meeting today, reiterated its commendation of the efforts of the High Committee for Creating a Suitable Environment for the Return of Citizens to Khartoum State, chaired by Lieutenant General Engineer Ibrahim Jaber, and the Khartoum State Government, headed by the Governor, Ahmed Osman Hamza.
