Al-Burhan Receives Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister; Crown Prince and Trump Initiative Resurfaces

Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah al-Burhan, Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, met today in Port Sudan with Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed al-Khuraiji, in the presence of Ambassador Muawiya Othman Khalid, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Saudi official conveyed to Head of the Sovereignty Council the greetings of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and his Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, and their wishes for security, stability, and peace for the Sudanese people.

For his part, Lieutenant General al-Burhan expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and his Crown Prince, praising their continued interest and keenness to support peace and stability efforts in Sudan, and emphasizing the strength of the historical relations and fraternal ties that bind the two brotherly peoples.

Al-Burhan also commended US President Donald Trump’s interest in the Sudanese issue and his efforts aimed at ending the war and supporting peace efforts in the country.

The meeting addressed the joint peace initiative sponsored by the Saudi Crown Prince and the US President, aimed at resolving the Sudanese crisis and advancing the peace process, in addition to discussing current regional developments.

The two sides also discussed the ongoing arrangements for the convening of the Strategic Coordination Council between Sudan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is under the auspices of the leadership in both countries, with the goal of strengthening bilateral cooperation and supporting shared interests.
