The UK Special Representative Seeks Clarification on the Role of the National Commission for Human Rights Violations

Attorney General, Ms. Intisar Ahmed Abdel Aal, who also heads the National Commission for Investigating Crimes and Violations of National Law and International Humanitarian Law, received Mr. Richard Crowder, the UK Special Representative and Head of the British Office for Sudanese Affairs, at her office in Port Sudan on Tuesday. The meeting was also attended by the First Assistant Attorney General, Kamal Mahjoub Ahmed.
The Sudan News Agency reported that during the meeting, the Attorney General reviewed the role of the Public Prosecution in light of the serious and repeated violations against unarmed civilians. She also discussed the mechanisms in place to protect human rights and the important role played by members of the Public Prosecution in conducting investigations.
The agency added that the British Special Representative expressed his thanks to His Excellency the Attorney General for the warm welcome and for the comprehensive explanations he received regarding the human rights situation in Sudan.
