The Federal Minister of Health Receives UNICEF Executive Director

The Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, met with UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell, in the presence of the representative of the organization’s office in Sudan, Sheldon, and members of the office, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Acting Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Khalil Mohamed Ibrahim, and the Executive Director of the National Medical Supplies Fund, Dr. Sheikh El-Din Abdel Baqi.

The Minister described the visit as high-level, as it was the first time that the UNICEF Executive Director had visited Sudan since the beginning of the war.

Children’s health conditions, especially immunization and child health programs, as well as UNICEF’s role in disease control and public health promotion, were discussed.

For her part, Catherine Russell described the meeting as excellent, stressing the importance of cooperation with the Sudanese government to protect children from communicable diseases and ensure that they have access to vaccinations and quality healthcare, while expressing her gratitude for the efforts made. She also pointed out the success of the vaccination teams in reaching all the states of Sudan, including Darfur, and the introduction of new vaccines, such as the malaria vaccine and the viral hepatitis vaccine, in Sudan.
