Prime Minister Reviews Results of Security Council Session
Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris returned to the country this morning (Friday) after participating in the UN Security Council session last Monday, which was convened at Sudan’s request.
In a press conference immediately following his arrival, the Prime Minister reviewed the results of his participation in the session and the meetings he held at the United Nations, emphasizing that the visit represented a historic milestone in Sudan’s engagement with the international community.
The Prime Minister affirmed that Head of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah al-Burhan, has been closely monitoring all details of the initiative he proposed and has continuously overseen its implementation since its initial stages. He expressed his appreciation for the efforts of Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US President Donald Trump. He also expressed his gratitude for the support of the members of the Sovereignty Council and the Council of Ministers, the Armed Forces, the Police, the mobilized forces, and all those who contributed to this “existential battle” with ideas, funds, or words.
The Prime Minister revealed that he held fruitful meetings with the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council, in addition to meetings with the African Group within the Council. He emphasized that these meetings expressed strong and unequivocal support for Sudan and contributed to promoting the Sudanese initiative within the Security Council.
The Prime Minister affirmed that the “Sudanese Government’s Peace Initiative” is a purely Sudanese-owned national initiative, belonging to the Sudanese people in all their diversity. He explained that Sudan stressed during the briefing preceding the Security Council session that its efforts complement international initiatives supporting peace.
The Prime Minister clarified that Sudan clearly affirmed within the halls of the United Nations that the Sudanese people are advocates of peace, not war, refuting the prevailing impression of rejecting peace and emphasizing that peace is a firmly established principle for the Sudanese people.
He indicated that this participation marks the first time since the outbreak of the war that Sudan has moved from a receptive to an initiating role within the international community by presenting a purely Sudanese initiative, reflecting full recognition of the Sudanese civilian government.
He also affirmed that meetings with the UN Secretary-General, the African Group, and friendly nations, including Turkey, Egypt, Russia, China, Pakistan, Qatar, and Eritrea, bolstered international support for Sudan and paved the way for future steps aimed at adopting a comprehensive vision for achieving immediate and lasting peace.
The Prime Minister concluded by emphasizing that the visit was, by all accounts, historic, establishing a new phase in which Sudan emerges as a proactive and leading nation in peace efforts.
