Open UN Security Council Session on Sudan on Monday

The UN Security Council has decided, following informal sessions and intensive consultations, to hold an open session on the latest developments in the Sudanese crisis.

According to informed diplomatic sources, the session will be open and will be held on Monday at noon New York time.

The Sudanese representative will present a briefing and comments during the session in response to the issues raised.

It is worth noting that intensive diplomatic activity was underway within the Security Council regarding developments in Sudan. This activity, led by Britain and Denmark, had prepared a memorandum assessing diplomatic initiatives and proposing mechanisms to prevent duplication.

The memorandum criticized the failure of all initiatives to achieve the desired breakthrough.

The session will hear briefings from several regional and international actors, including the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Ramtane Lamamra, and the head of the African Union High-Level Panel on Sudan, Mohamed Belalich, who visited Sudan yesterday and delivered a message from the Chairperson of the African Union Commission to the Head of the Sovereignty Council.
