Minnawi criticizes the Quintet’s call to include the RSF, threatens to reject any peace process that ignores Darfur crimes

Darfur Region Governor, Minni Arko Minnawi, criticized the call by the African Union’s Quintet and international and regional bodies—the Arab League, IGAD, the United Nations, and the European Union—to include the RSF (Rapid Support Forces) in the political process.

He considered the move to be ignoring what he described as the ongoing “genocide and ethnic cleansing” perpetrated by these forces in the region.

In a statement, Minnawi said:

“The call for peace was made at a time when genocide and ethnic cleansing are being perpetrated by their own hands, and the world is rushing to wash its hands of the blood.

If the call continues in this manner, we will not be part of it.”

Minnawi’s stance comes amid escalating criticism of the efforts of international mediators, particularly given the continued widespread violations in Darfur and the increasing military buildup, along with demands to link any political process to holding those involved in crimes and violations accountable.
