Militia Targets Vital Facilities in Atbara, Power Outage Completely

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia targeted the cities of Ed-Damar, the capital of River Nile State, and Atbara with suicide drones early this morning (Thursday). The drones targeted several vital service projects, primarily electricity transformers and petroleum depots.

A military source confirmed the attack,, but no official statement has yet been issued by the River Nile State government detailing the extent of the damage.

Eyewitnesses reported that the attack struck the power substation in the Al-Muqran area of ​​Atbara, as well as the city’s petroleum depot. Residents of Ed-Damar and Atbara were surprised by a series of powerful explosions early this morning, despite the use of anti-aircraft artillery. Fires broke out in both the Atbara depots and the power substation.

According to eyewitnesses, two members of the Civil Defense Forces at the power substation were killed in this treacherous attack. The targeting of the Atbara power substation resulted in power outages in several cities across a number of Sudanese states.

For its part, the Sudan Electricity Company announced that its substation had been attacked. In a brief statement issued on Thursday, the company said that the attack caused direct damage to the power transformers, leading to power outages in several states.

The company added that the Civil Defense Forces are making great efforts to extinguish the fire and will conduct a technical assessment of the damage caused by the attack before taking the necessary corrective measures.
