May God Restore Khartoum’s Longing

🖊️ Khalaf Allah Alobaid Hussein
May God restore Khartoum’s longing, that city for which hearts yearn as birds yearn for the warmth of their nests, as the Nile yearns for its first bank.
Adorned in her fresh attire, perfumed with the scent of rain, her palm trees swaying with joy, as if shedding herself into a new era of hope.
O Khartoum, joy of mornings and memory of tranquil evenings, how we longed for your mornings when you dawned upon people with tenderness, and how we missed the murmur of life in your streets when smiles vanished from your faces.
Now you return… majestic like the Nile, verdant like grass after rain, beautiful as we have always known you, embracing your children with all love and peace.
Khartoum returns to wash away its sorrows with light, to gather those scattered in exile, and to restore to life the flavor lost in the chaos of absence.
O God, make her joy everlasting, plant tranquility in her paths, and restore to her her ancient glory and her beauty that never fades.
