Implementing by Human Appeal: “Promoting Community Closeness and Social Peace – Peace on Wheels” in Khartoum State

Human Appeal continued on Wednesday the implementation of the project “Promoting Community Closeness and Social Peace – Peace on Wheels” in the state of Khartoum in the localities of Omdurman, Bahri, Karri, Khartoum, and Um Badda.
The project is implemented in partnership with the Government of Khartoum State through the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Humanitarian Aid Commission, and with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), at a cost of US$ 90,000. It aims to spread community awareness and promote the values of peace and peaceful coexistence through groups that are considered the most in contact with society, namely rickshaw drivers and tea sellers in the state.
Ilham Mubarak, Project Officer at Human Appeal, revealed that the implementation of the Peacebuilding and Combating Hate Speech project, which will last until the 25th of this month, will continue for three months in the states of Khartoum and Gedaref.
She explained that the project included three main activities, represented by the training of rickshaw drivers and tea sellers in Khartoum State, in addition to the training of a number of influential women in Gedaref State. She pointed out that three training workshops were implemented: two in Gedaref and one in Khartoum, each lasting five days.
Elham added that the workshops targeted 76 beneficiaries, including 18 participants in Gedaref and 38 participants in Khartoum State, in addition to 10 tea sellers in Khartoum and 10 influential women in Gedaref.
Mubarak pointed out that the practical implementation phase was launched for two weeks, as the activities were concluded in Gedaref State on December 15, and the project will be officially concluded in Khartoum State on December 25.
She stressed that the targeted individuals have been provided with means and tools to combat hate speech, indicating that the workshops have achieved great success and wide resonance within the community amid a remarkable turnout and welcome from the beneficiaries, considering that the project is one of the new and creative initiatives in the field of peacebuilding.
