$420 Million Grant from the African Development Bank

The African Development Bank has provided approximately $420 million in funding for ongoing projects in Sudan. During a meeting with a bank delegation at the Ministry of Finance today, Mohamed Bashar, Undersecretary of Planning at the Ministry, revealed that discussions are underway between the bank and the government regarding new projects to be funded by a new grant exceeding $200 million, in accordance with current priorities. He emphasized the government’s focus on basic services, food security, infrastructure, building the capacity of national personnel, and all productive projects that ensure the sustainability of peace and contribute to development. He commended the bank’s continued efforts to support the government’s reconstruction and rebuilding efforts following the war. He clarified that the aforementioned funding consists of grants from the bank’s 16th grant program. The Undersecretary described the bank as a key partner in the development sector.

The Bank’s Country Director for Sudan, David Mutuku, affirmed Sudan’s priority in the financing available to member countries, explaining that the delegation’s visit aimed to assess the progress of existing projects and explore opportunities for grants to fund new projects in coordination with the government and partners.

The Regional Director for East Africa, Alexander Daniel, confirmed the Bank’s commitment to addressing current needs after the delegation witnessed firsthand the impact of the war in Sudan.
