Sudan welcomes Trump’s peace initiative

The Sudanese Embassy in Washington officially informed the US government of the Sudanese government’s thanks and appreciation for US President Donald Trump’s pledge to exert efforts to address the situation in Sudan.

It also informed them of the government’s welcome of the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America to establish peace in Sudan.

Sudan’s Ambassador to Washington, Mohammed Abdullah Idris, conveyed the Sudanese government’s thanks to Washington and Riyadh for their concern and ongoing efforts to stop the bloodshed in Sudan.

The ambassador added that he affirmed to the US administration the Sudanese government’s commitment and readiness to work with them to achieve the peace that the Sudanese people await and aspire to.

Idris confirmed that the Sudanese mission in Washington will remain in contact with the US administration at both the executive and legislative levels to take practical steps to implement the pledges made.

US President Donald Trump announced Wednesday evening his intention to intervene immediately to end the war in Sudan at the request of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Trump, who hosted Mohammed bin Salman in Washington, added: “The Saudi Crown Prince asked me to intervene to resolve the crisis in Sudan, and I will do so. Thirty minutes after Mohammed bin Salman’s request, I began working on resolving the Sudanese crisis,” noting that he had ended eight wars, with only one remaining.

Trump continued: “Resolving the conflict in Sudan was not part of my plans, but Prince Mohammed bin Salman made me take an interest in it. The Saudi Crown Prince will have a strong role in working to end what is happening in Sudan.”

During a joint press conference with the US President on Tuesday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said that there was much joint work with Washington and that he praised Trump’s efforts for peace.
