Sudan Signs Joint Declaration with UN to Support Industrial Recovery Program

The Sudanese government signed a joint declaration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to support the country’s industrial recovery program. The declaration was signed by Ms. Mahasin Ali Yaqoub, Minister of Industry and Trade, on behalf of the Sudanese government, and by Mr. Gerd Müller, Director-General of UNIDO.

The Sudan News Agency reported that the signing took place on the sidelines of the 21st session of the UNIDO General Conference, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from November 23 to 27.

The declaration aims to assist the country in its efforts to rebuild the industrial sector, particularly by enhancing the added value of agricultural products, attracting investments to agro-processing centers, reducing post-harvest losses, promoting water-related industries, pharmaceuticals, and green manufacturing, and providing industrial policy advice and national capacity building.

In the same context, the Minister of Industry and Trade, in her statement to the UNIDO General Conference, called upon member states, regional and international financing institutions, the private sector, and research centers to support the Sudanese government’s efforts with the UNIDO Secretariat to implement the Industrial Recovery Program. She affirmed the government’s commitment to implementing this program, which aims to support efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable economic and social development and to promote peace and stability in the country.

She commended the cooperation program between Sudan and UNIDO and the organization’s continued work in the country following the outbreak of the rebellion, and affirmed Sudan’s aspiration for further cooperation in the coming period.
