Ambassador Bin Jaafar: The Kingdom Continues its Efforts to End the War
Ali bin Hassan Jaafar, the Saudi Ambassador to Sudan, stated that the Kingdom, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, continues its efforts to end the war in Sudan.
During his address at the ceremony held at the Saudi Embassy in Port Sudan to inaugurate the project to rehabilitate and improve basic water services in Gezt State, he added that Saudi Arabia will provide all possible assistance to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and support them in overcoming these difficult circumstances, enabling them to rebuild their lives.
According to a press release issued by the embassy, the projects will be implemented at a cost of $2.3 million, funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and implemented by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
The project includes drilling 15 wells equipped with elevated water tanks and solar-powered pumps, rehabilitating 40 existing wells and restoring their operational capacity, installing 30 solar power units to ensure continuous operation and sustainability, and training 40 local technicians in operation and maintenance to guarantee the system’s long-term sustainability.
The wells will benefit 200,000 returnees and local communities in five localities in Gezira State: Al Kamilin, Al Hasahisa, South Gezira, Wad Madani, and Umm Al Qura.
The launch of this project comes within the framework of the Kingdom’s commitment, represented by the Center, to enhancing the effectiveness of humanitarian interventions in the Republic of Sudan, empowering communities to rebuild and recover, and improving living and environmental conditions in all Sudanese states, according to the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Sudan.
For his part, the Governor of Gezira State, Al-Tahir Ibrahim, praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s swift response in implementing water projects in the state. He noted that the systematic destruction inflicted on areas of the state was unprecedented in any other Sudanese state, to the point that members of the Rapid Support Forces militia seized the citizens’ crops and sustenance.
He stated that the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center was among the first international organizations to send food baskets to Gezira State, adding that if he tried to enumerate all the aid provided by the center to the people of the state, he would be unable to do so.
