Sudan Mourns Aila

Sudanese circles mourned the death of Sudanese politician Mohamed Tahir Aila, the most famous governor to hold the position of governor of the Red Sea State and the most distinguished governor during the era of the Salvation Regime led by Bashir.

Mohamed Tahir died today in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the burial date is expected to be determined in the coming hours.

Mohamed Tahir Ayla was born in Port Sudan in 1951. He received his university education at the University of Khartoum, majoring in economics.

He served as governor of the Red Sea State for a long time. He is credited with improving Port Sudan’s infrastructure, promoting domestic tourism, and enhancing the city’s aesthetic appeal.

He was then appointed governor of Gezira State in 2015. He was one of the most active governors, focusing on developing agricultural projects and infrastructure.

In February 2019, former President Omar al-Bashir appointed him Prime Minister in an attempt to absorb public anger during the widespread protests that erupted at the time. He remained in office until the fall of al-Bashir’s regime in April 2019.

Ayla is known for his pragmatic administrative style and focus on development and service projects. Some of his projects were well-received by the public, especially in Port Sudan.

After al-Bashir’s ouster, he was dismissed from his position and subsequently made little public appearances in the political arena. Rumors circulated about his departure from Sudan, but he has not commented publicly.
