Egyptian Foreign Minister Meets Al-Burhan

Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, met with Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, Head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, during his visit to Port Sudan on Wednesday, October 1.

The Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Al-Burhan, stressing that his third visit to Port Sudan within a year reflects the depth of bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and is a message of support for Sudan amid the difficult circumstances the country is experiencing.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the Foreign Minister affirmed Egypt’s continued efforts to achieve stability in brotherly Sudan, expressing Egypt’s full solidarity with Sudan and supporting its stability, security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions, most notably the Sudanese Armed Forces.

Minister Abdel Aty emphasized the historical ties between the two countries, affirming his commitment to actively engaging in efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Sudan, achieving a humanitarian truce, and ending the suffering of the brotherly Sudanese people.

The official spokesperson added that the Foreign Minister expressed his aspiration to develop bilateral relations in various fields, particularly economic and trade cooperation, welcoming the holding of the Egyptian-Sudanese Business Forum meetings this year, as well as the joint trade committee in Cairo.
He also noted the facilities Egypt provides to Sudanese brethren residing in Egypt and its efforts to facilitate the voluntary return of Sudanese citizens to their country once the situation calms down and stabilizes.

According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the meeting also addressed the issue of water security.
During the meeting, the two countries affirmed the unity of their positions as downstream states of the Nile River, emphasized the need to fully adhere to international law in the Eastern Nile Basin, and completely rejected unilateral measures on the Nile River.

For his part, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, Head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, asked that his greetings and appreciation be conveyed to His Excellency the President of the Republic, expressing his gratitude for Egypt’s sincere support for Sudan and praising the fraternal and historical relations between the two brotherly countries.
