PM Meets Russian Foreign Minister at UN Headquarters in New York
Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris met today at the UN Headquarters in New York with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in the presence of senior Russian and Sudanese officials.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance cooperation and partnership between Sudan and Russia in the economic, political, and cultural fields. They also discussed Russia’s support for consolidating peace and stability in Sudan, and the implementation of agreements related to education, security, and economic development.
For his part, the Prime Minister conveyed the greetings of Head of the Sovereignty Council to Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing the Sudanese people’s gratitude and appreciation to the Russian government and people for Russia’s continued constructive role in supporting Sudan and its people in international forums, particularly in the UN Security Council.
Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris emphasized that Russia’s positions are historic and have been appreciated by all Sudanese people.
For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s firm position in supporting Sudanese state institutions and Russia’s rejection of any desperate attempts to undermine the legitimate government by establishing a parallel government.
He stressed the need to build strategic partnerships with Sudan based on mutual respect, common interests, and respect for Sudan’s sovereignty and ownership of its national decision-making.
On the Sudanese side, the meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohieddin Salem; the Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism, Mr. Khaled Al-Eiser; the Head of Sudan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Ambassador Al-Harith Idris; the Sudanese Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador Mohamed Abdullah Idris; the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Idris Ismail Faraj Allah; Minister Plenipotentiary Ammar Mohamed Mahmoud; and Minister Plenipotentiary Faisal Abdel Azim.
