HAC Commissioner-General Meets Assistant Executive Director of the WFP

Ms. Salwa Adam Benya met at the Commission on Sunday, September 7, with Ms. Valerie Guarnieri, Assistant Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), who is visiting the country. The Commissioner-General briefed Ms. Valerie on the humanitarian situation in the country and affirmed the Government of Sudan’s commitment to protecting civilians and delivering humanitarian assistance to all those in need in all Sudanese states.
Ms. Salwa expressed her regret at the silence of the international community and its organizations regarding the violations and siege imposed by militias on the cities of El Fasher, Dilling, and Kadugli, as well as the looting of humanitarian convoys of United Nations organizations, particularly the looting of a WFP convoy in the Kuma area in recent months.
The Commissioner-General emphasized that the priority in the coming period for the liberated states is to rebuild what was destroyed by the war by digging wells and rehabilitating hospitals, health and education facilities, and livelihood projects.
The Commissioner-General stressed the need for urgent and rapid intervention in El Fasher, Dilling, and Kadugli, given the critical humanitarian conditions resulting from the blockade imposed on these cities.
She called on the United Nations and its organizations to assume their humanitarian and moral responsibilities. For her part, Ms. Valerie thanked the Government of Sudan for the warm welcome and facilitation of entry procedures, including visa and movement permits.
She affirmed the program’s continued delivery of humanitarian assistance to all those in need in Sudan and its continued efforts to reach Kadugli, Dilling, and El Fasher. She also emphasized the need to attract more donor support to carry out the necessary humanitarian interventions in Sudan. In conclusion, the Assistant Executive Director of the World Food Program, Ms. Valerie Guarnieri, thanked the Government of Sudan and the Sudanese Humanitarian Aid Commission for these efforts and facilitation of humanitarian work.
