Cooperation between the Supreme Council for Social Peace and AcoGaps

On Saturday, September 27, Ms. Alia Hassan Abuna, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Social Peace, met at her office in Port Sudan with Dr. Mahmoud Zein El Abidine, Director-General of the African Center for Governance, Peace, and Transition Studies (AcoGaps).

Ms. Alia began the meeting by welcoming the Director of the African Center and praising the Center’s significant work before and after the war.

Alia added that the Supreme Council for Social Peace represents one of the tools of transition and that it was born carrying within it its executive programs. She addressed the importance of the role of enlightenment, reflection, and training centers in achieving national recovery and reconstruction.

She also emphasized that the Supreme Council focuses on benefiting from the successful experiences of African countries that have recovered after prolonged conflicts and wars, such as Rwanda and South Africa, in addition to the rich national experiences of similar organizations in previous stages.

For his part, Dr. Zain Al-Abidin said that the meeting aimed at congratulating the council’s leadership on gaining the state’s confidence and being assigned to lead this vital institution.

He noted that this appointment is a serious and important step towards enhancing stability and consolidating the foundations of peace in Sudan, a goal everyone aspires to.

He expressed AcoGaps readiness to place its expertise and capabilities at the service of the council and cooperate in several areas, most notably: promoting peace and social cohesion by designing and implementing programs and initiatives that contribute to strengthening the values ​​of peaceful coexistence among the various components of the Sudanese people, and offering specialized training programs to qualify national cadres in the fields of social peace, stability, and strengthening community ties.

This is in addition to conducting studies, research, and surveys, providing technical support, and demonstrating successful experiences and best practices.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Zain Al-Abidin affirmed that the Supreme Council for Social Peace and AcoGaps agreed to cooperate on social peace projects and programs to achieve the aspirations of the Sudanese people for stability.
