Sudan: Our Covenant with Egypt Will Not Be Broken
Sudanese Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris began his speech during a joint press conference with Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mustafa Madbouly by saying, “I stand before you today, humbly, on behalf of the entire Sudanese people, to extend my thanks, appreciation, and gratitude to the State of Egypt, its President, government, and people, for these noble, historic positions and for hosting millions of Sudanese people during these exceptional circumstances our country is experiencing, as a result of this brutal war imposed on us.”
He added, “We emphasized this message on behalf of the Sudanese people during our meeting with His Excellency President Abdul Fattah El-Sisi today, and we reiterate our commitment to conveying this message to His Excellency the Egyptian Prime Minister.”
He continued, “This is a message from the nation, not from me as Prime Minister. It is from all the Sudanese people, who highly value these important historical stances. We will reciprocate these stances and the generous treatment we received from our brothers in Egypt, both government and people.” He continued, “Today was a historic meeting in which we exchanged views on all pressing issues, national for our two countries, regional issues of concern to Egypt and Sudan, and international issues. I can say with confidence that there is consensus and agreement on all these national, regional, and international issues that were raised, and we will implement these issues through the joint technical and political mechanisms and committees between the two countries.”
At the end of his speech, the Sudanese Prime Minister said, “I affirm that this covenant with Egypt will not be broken, that this will with the Arab Republic of Egypt will not falter, and that this insightful vision that we have agreed upon will be a comprehensive vision for the benefit of our two countries and for future generations.”
The joint press conference was attended from the Egyptian side by Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities; Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs; and Dr. Ahmed Fouad Hano, Minister of Culture.
From the Sudanese side, the Minister of Foreign Affairs was Omar Siddiq; Khaled Ismail Ahmed, Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism; and Lieutenant General Emad El-Din Mustafa Adawi, Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan in Cairo, and a number of senior officials.
