A joint team from Reproductive and Child Health to discuss maternal, child and newborn health services in Khartoum State

The Reproductive Health and Child Health Programs at the Federal Ministry of Health carried out a field visit to Khartoum State, as part of joint efforts to evaluate and enhance services related to maternal and child health, aiming to stand on the ground at the level of health services in health institutions in the state, review the readiness of institutions to provide reproductive health services and child health services, identify the challenges facing the health system in this field, and work on developing coordination mechanisms for the operation of institutions affected by the war, especially institutions that provide emergency pregnancy and childbirth services and newborns.
The federal delegation, headed by the Acting Director of Maternal and Child Health, Amal Mahmoud, held a coordination meeting with the leaders of the Ministry of Health in Khartoum State, discussed the current status of health services, exchanged technical information and future plans to improve the quality of services provided.
Amal Mahmoud stressed the importance of concerted efforts between the federal and state levels to strengthen the health system, especially in the field of maternal and child health, as they are the most affected segments of society by wars and conflicts, pointing out the need to support health cadres and provide vital equipment to ensure a reduction in morbidity and mortality rates among mothers and newborns.
Mahmoud announced the administration’s readiness to provide support that contributes to the restoration of health services to the capital, Khartoum.
The visit included a number of hospitals, including Omdurman Maternity Hospital, the leading obstetric institutions in Sudan, the Saudi Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology, and some health centers that provide reproductive health and child health services.
The head of the Pregnancy, Maternity and Newborn Emergency Unit, Abdul Baqi Issa, stressed the need to operate the institutions providing pregnancy and childbirth emergency services and ensure the quality of the services provided in them by rehabilitating the institutions destroyed by the war and providing them with devices and equipment, in addition to retaining and training their cadres, which requires more efforts, directing resources and good coordination with all relevant authorities in order to prepare citizens to return to the capital, Khartoum.
