Federal Health Undersecretary Meets IAEA Director

Within the program of the Federal Ministry of Health with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, met today with the Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Dr. Rafael Grossi, in the presence of the representative of Sudan, Ambassador Magdi Mufaddal, and the accompanying delegation from Sudan.

The Undersecretary reviewed what Sudan and its health system were exposed to as a result of the war, especially regarding oncology hospitals and the suffering of cancer patients in Sudan. The Undersecretary then reviewed the outputs of the technical meeting with the Agency, in which urgent support was agreed upon for the provision of radiotherapy devices to restore services at the Wad Madani Oncology Center, as well as sending technical teams to evaluate oncology hospitals in Shendi and Khartoum.

Additionally, the discussion included supporting the future vision for the establishment of three other new oncology hospitals during the upcoming period.
The Director of the Agency, Rafael Grossi, welcomed Sudan’s joining the Rays of Hope match and its participation in various activities, promising to provide technical and in-kind support to Sudan, especially with regard to restoring services to existing hospitals. He pointed to facilitating the procedures for the technical teams to assess the situation, directing its technical departments regarding technical and training support, as well as facilitating the procedures for providing radiological devices for treatment through the mechanisms of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
