The six-day training course for supply officers on the effective management of vaccines and cold chain equipment for the states of Gezira, White Nile, Sennar, North Kordofan, and Blue Nile Region was organized by the Expanded Program on Immunization at the Federal Ministry of Health in cooperation with UNICEF.

The Acting Director of the General Administration of Basic Health Care, Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Abdullah, said in the opening session that the Expanded Program on Immunization in Sudan has witnessed development “since its inception in 1976, up to the current stage, working to cover all states fairly and equitably. One of its objectives is to strengthen disease surveillance, which has enabled a rapid response to epidemics, despite the challenges,” stressing the unlimited support of the General Administration of Basic Health Care for the program.

Abdullah pointed to the success of the expanded immunization program in removing more than 6 million routine vaccination doses from the headquarters of the central cold chain in Khartoum at the beginning of the war and distributing them to the states. He praised the immunization partners from international organizations.

The Acting Director of the Maternal and Child Health Department, Amal Mahmoud, confirmed that the participants represent the third group within the training of supply officers on the effective management of vaccines and cold chain equipment.

The national expert, Samira Mohamed Othman, noted that the immunization program is used to develop the capabilities of workers under all circumstances, including war, and added that “one of the strong programs and its interventions is clear,” which contributed to targeting 13 childhood diseases and introducing 10 vaccines while ensuring the introduction of more vaccines.

The Director of the Expanded Program on Immunization, Ismail Al-Adani, explained that the course targets supply officers in the states of Gezira, White Nile, Sennar, North Kordofan, and the Blue Nile region.
