Ministry of Health receives (3) million doses of cholera vaccine

The Federal Ministry of Health received a shipment of cholera vaccines provided by the International Coordinating Committee for the Coordination of Cholera Control, estimated at three million doses. One million five hundred thousand doses have been received today, while the remaining quantity will arrive tomorrow, as part of the response of the Ministry of Health and its partners to contain the cholera epidemic in the country.

The shipment was received at Port Sudan International Airport by the representative of the Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Esmat Mustafa, along with his accompanying delegation, and the Deputy Representative of UNICEF in Sudan, Anne-Marie Swai.

In press statements, Dr. Esmat expressed his thanks to international organizations for their effective contribution to containing the epidemic, noting that Sudan’s receipt of three million doses, in addition to one million and two hundred thousand doses allocated to the states of Darfur, is an important support in the path of combating cholera. He also noted the efforts made by the General Administration of Basic Health Care and the Department of Expanded Immunization, and reassured citizens of the safety and security of the vaccine.

For her part, Anne-Marie Swai expressed her happiness with the arrival of the vaccines, and revealed the approval of the International Coordinating Committee for Cholera Control on the ministry’s request for additional doses to the Darfur states, thanking the Ministry of Health for the good coordination.

The shipment arrived on a chartered private jet with UNICEF’s support.
