Ambassador Al-Zain briefs the official of the UNECA on developments in Sudan

Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim Hussein, Sudan’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), confirmed that the armed forces and their supporting forces have succeeded in defeating the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia and liberating most of the country’s territory. During his meeting with the Executive Secretary of the UNECA, Claver Gatiti, in the presence of the Minister Plenipotentiary at the Sudanese Embassy in Ethiopia, Dr. Suad Mirghani, Ambassador Al-Zein emphasized that the process of imposing state authority and extending the rule of law continues throughout the country, ensuring the safe return of citizens to their cities, villages, and farms and the normalization of civilian life, which requires the provision of services. Ambassador Al-Zein reviewed the political and constitutional developments in the Sudanese scene, including the historic decision taken by the Head of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, to appoint Ambassador Dr. Kamil Al-Tayeb Idris as Prime Minister, noting the new Prime Minister’s efforts and the consultations he is conducting with state officials, and various political forces and entities to form a civilian government to lead the transition process, in light of the roadmap recently proposed by the government. Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ambassador Al-Zein Ibrahim, requested Mr. Gatiti to accompany Sudan with emergency support for projects under the mandate of the international organization concerned with Africa, in the areas of emergency needs, capacity building, and joint assessment.

In this context, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Claver Gatiti, affirmed his support for Sudan at this stage through a package of programs that will be agreed upon with the relevant ministries and focal points in the country to support the transition process in Sudan.
