A cholera vaccination campaign in 5 localities in Khartoum Launches

The Federal Ministry of Health and the Government of Khartoum State launched today at Omdurman Teaching Hospital the cholera vaccination campaign, targeting 2,611,040 citizens aged one year and above, distributed over 12 administrative units in 5 localities (Omdurman, Karari, East Nile, Umbda, and Jabal Awlia).

During the inauguration, Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza said that the state witnessed an epic battle to defeat epidemiology after overcoming the militia, which contributed to the decline of the disease, recording the lowest rate of cholera, zero deaths, and a high rate of recovery. He stressed the importance of not being complacent and the need for continuous control of epidemics.

The Governor praised the support and supply of medicines provided by the Federal Ministry of Health, thanking Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim for his support of the state, especially during the past month following the spread of the epidemic. He also praised the efforts of the teams from the federal and state ministries of health, as well as UN and national organizations volunteers, as well as various media agencies, calling on them to reflect what they see with transparency and justice.
The federal supervisor of the campaign, Acting Director of Maternal and Child Health at the Federal Ministry of Health, Amal Mahmoud, confirmed that the vaccine is safe and effective, and gives immunity of up to 65% and its rise to 100% if other health precautions are adhered to.

The Director General of the Ministry of Health in Khartoum State, the Minister in charge, Dr. Fath Al-Rahman Muhammad Al-Amin, pointed out that the emergence and spread of the epidemic is not the result of the weakness of the government or the weakness of the health system, stressing the readiness of the state and its interventions, which led to the registration of zero deaths with a decline in infection, appealing to citizens to adhere to health guidelines.
