Nyala is on fire from within

Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, has been rocked by violent clashes since this afternoon following an armed attack by a group of Rizeigat tribesmen on a detention center run by the RSF militia in the Cinema neighborhood. The attack was prompted by the death of one of their sons under torture after he was arrested by the militia’s intelligence services.
Local sources said the victim was a former non-commissioned officer in the Sudanese army who had joined the militia at the beginning of the war but was recently arrested for refusing to fight, before being killed inside the detention center.
In response, dozens of local gunmen launched a surprise attack, killing several militia members. They then stormed the detention center and withdrew 14 members of the Rapid Support Forces intelligence service amid violent clashes that are still ongoing at the time of writing.
The militants demanded the personal presence of Abdul Rahim Dagalo, while the city’s streets were completely closed, paralyzing traffic amid a state of tension and chaos.
This development comes amid escalating internal divisions within the RSF militia, at a time when the Sudanese army is making progress on several fronts.
