We welcome the statement by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, and his acknowledgment of the important step taken by the President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, in appointing an independent civilian technocrat as Prime Minister.
While we deeply value this initiative by our African brothers, we express our hope that the African Union will take swift and constructive action to help reinstate Sudan to its historic and leading role by lifting the suspension of its membership. Such a step would meaningfully contribute to the promotion of peace, security, and stability in Sudan, across the African continent, and around the world.
