European Union: Rapid Support Forces Attacks on Port Sudan Undermine Regional Stability and Violate Humanitarian Law

The European Union expressed its deep concern over the escalation of hostilities in Sudan, describing the drone attacks targeting Port Sudan, which targeted vital infrastructure, including civilian facilities, as a “significant and worrying expansion of the conflict into previously unaffected areas, where thousands of Sudanese civilians and international partners have fled active combat zones.”

A statement issued by the European Union said it “strongly condemns the use of drone strikes by the Rapid Support Forces against civilian and key targets.” It considered that “these actions, supported by international actors, not only threaten the safety and well-being of Sudanese civilians and international staff residing in Port Sudan, but also undermine regional stability and violate international humanitarian law.”

The European Union expressed its solidarity with the African Union and other international partners in “urging all parties involved in the Sudanese conflict to cease hostilities, engage in constructive dialogue, and commit to a peaceful solution.” It stated that it remains committed to supporting efforts to restore peace and stability in Sudan.
