Statement by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs

France strongly condemns the attacks carried out by the Rapid Support Forces on the Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps for internally displaced persons in North Darfur, Sudan, which resulted in numerous casualties among civilians and humanitarian workers. The perpetrators of these crimes must be held accountable.

In accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2736, the Rapid Support Forces must immediately end their siege of El Fasher, due to the catastrophic humanitarian consequences.

France reiterates its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities throughout the country and for all parties to abide by their commitments to ensure the protection of civilians and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, in accordance with their obligations under international humanitarian law.

One year after the Paris Conference, Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will co-chair the London Conference on Sudan on April 15, 2025, to continue France’s efforts to restore peace to Sudan.
