Popular Protests in East Darfur Against the RSF

The Naqi’a area of Yassin locality, East Darfur, witnessed widespread protests today against the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF), known as Al-Diain Sector Forces, following a killing incident that claimed the life of a citizen.
The incident began when three militia members attempted to terrorize a mechanic shop owner and refused to pay for spare parts, and when he protested, they shot him five times, killing him inside the shop.
The incident sparked outrage among residents, and a large number of them, some armed, gathered and arrested the perpetrators.
They took them to the police station, where security forces attempted to protect them, release them, and return their vehicle. However, the number of protesters increased, and they surrounded the station, chanting anti-militia slogans.
This led to the escape of police officers and the perpetrators amid a heavy exchange of gunfire.
The citizens then stormed the station, setting fire to property and documents inside, and burning the perpetrators’ vehicle. As of the time of writing, the area remains outside the militia’s control, amid a state of tension and anticipation.
