militia drones target Meroe power plant for the second time

On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the Meroe power plant was attacked by drones for the second time in less than three days.
Thankfully, there were no casualties, but the attack resulted in direct damage to the transformers feeding the Northern State and a number of reactors, loading to a power outage in the state and disrupting efforts to rehabilitate the transformer damaged in previous attacks.
The Media Coordination Council for Electricity said in a statement that the transformer fire later damaged the power line feeding Khartoum State, resulting in a complete network shutdown affecting Khartoum, River Nile, and Red Sea states.
It confirmed that Civil Defense forces are making great efforts to extinguish the fire while a technical assessment of the effects of the attack is underway and the necessary remedial measures are taken.
We also note the importance of obtaining electricity sector news, especially regarding terrorist attacks on electricity facilities, from the press releases and announcements published by the Electricity Media Coordination Council.
