Government Intervention in the Crisis of Stranded Refugees from Egypt

Northern Sudan Governor Abdeen Awadallah discussed with the State Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, Dr. Abdul Rahman Ali Khairi, the Secretary of Social Affairs, Manal Makkawi, and the Secretary of the Zakat Chamber in the State, Al-Hadi Muhammad Ahmed, arrangements with relevant state authorities and joint coordination to resolve the problem of the stranded displaced persons (IDPs) at the Orgeen and Eshkeet crossings, who are returning from the Arab Republic of Egypt as part of the voluntary return program.

The State Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, Dr. Abdul Rahman, stated that approximately fifty buses carrying 1,250 people arrive daily at the crossings.

He pointed out that 2,500 people are currently stranded at the Orgeen crossing and are in need of food, water, health, and shelter services.
He added that the crossings are not equipped to receive these numbers of returnees.

Khairi appealed to organizations to intervene to provide assistance and necessary services to these returnees.
