Zain Telecommunications Company signs a partnership agreement to enhance awareness of the dangers of mines, ammunition and remnants of war
The Sudanese Mobile Phone Company (Zain) signed a partnership agreement with the National Mine Action Center, in partnership with the Friends of Peace and Development Organization, to enhance awareness of the dangers of mines, ammunition and remnants of war, at the center’s headquarters in Port Sudan.
Major General Khaled Hamdan Adam, Director of the National Mine Action Center, said that the agreement includes awareness of the dangers of mines and remnants of war through text messages, describing the spread of strange and unexploded objects as a major concern for the safety of citizens returning to their homes.
He pointed out that the center has many teams to remove mines and others to educate citizens.
He added that the partnership with Zain Telecommunications Company enhances the work as it is large, and that they encourage more partnerships in the coming period to remove mines in areas that have become safe.
For his part, Saleh Mohammed Ali, Director of Corporate Communications at Zain Company, said that the company supports the safe return of citizens after the end of the war in a number of areas by raising awareness of the dangers of mines, ammunition and remnants of war.
He added that the many incidents of mine explosions after people returned prompted them to immediately start awareness operations with the National Mine Action Center by signing the memorandum today.
Saleh pointed out that the company contributes to the field of awareness through text messages to its subscribers, who number more than ten million subscribers, while the number of followers of its pages on social media has reached more than two million followers. He added that the company will conduct direct public awareness in safe cities, and that the communications network services have reached 70%-80% in safe areas and areas that were affected.
Saleh noted that the company is working on awareness through messages and instructions to ensure the safe return of citizens, revealing the celebration of the International Day for Mine Action on April 1, where the direct public awareness program on mine action will be launched.
In this context, Al-Tayeb Ali Farah, Director of Corporate Communications at Zain, said that since the beginning of the war, they have had communication and contributions to return citizens to their homes safely and with full awareness of mines and war remnants.
In the same context, Babiker Jamil, Director of the Friends of Peace and Development Organization, said that avoiding dangerous objects saves the lives of citizens, and that awareness-raising tools are available.
He pointed out that the return of the displaced to their areas witnessed incidents of the explosion of a number of strange objects and mines.
He added that there is a great and urgent need to remove mines, and that citizens’ homes have become trenches containing mines and unexploded explosives.
