Solar energy: Sudan’s opportunity to rise and shine

Sudan, where the sun blazes for over 3,000 hours a year, a true blessing. This country has some of the highest levels of sunlight in the world, yet there are many living in pitch black darkness. It is a country with vast deserts and endless sunshine, truly makes it a normal candidate to lead in solar energy and not just regionally but globally. While Sudan has the sunlight, it actually needs the vision to harness it. Now, since we know that the solution to our problem lies above us. For Sudan, which is already vulnerable to the impacts of desertification, water scarcity, and rising temperatures, transitioning to solar energy is not just an option but a real necessity. But what’s the question? if the sun is shining so brightly on Sudan, why aren’t we harnessing its full potential? The answer simply lies in awareness as well as investments, and action. It demands a concerted effort to raise public awareness, build capacity, and create an enabling policy environment. Public and private partnerships, international cooperation, and community engagement will be essential to scale up solar energy adoption and ensure its benefits reach all segments of society. The sun is a resource that is both abundant and equitable, it shines on all, regardless of geography or socioeconomic status. So the real question is not whether Sudan can harness this resource, but whether it will seize the opportunity to do so.
