Massive Military Reinforcements for Darfur

Large military reinforcements have arrived in Darfur, including troops from the Sudanese army, the joint force, and specialized units from Khartoum, central Sudan, and the north, according today the Darfur Media Network.

These reinforcements come as part of the army’s efforts to secure the region amid escalating tensions in several areas, most notably El Fasher, where clashes continue between regular forces and armed militias.

In a related context, the Head of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, confirmed that the option of peace remains open, but it is contingent on the militias laying down their weapons.
He stated that the suffering of civilians in areas under the control of the militias “has become unacceptable,” stressing the need to achieve security and stability in the country.
