The National Umma Party disavows signing the Nairobi Charter

The National Umma Party confirmed that it is not part of the charter that was signed on Saturday in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
The party’s Secretary-General, Al-Wathiq Al-Bareir, said in a statement, “The signing of a political charter between a number of political components, armed movements, and the Rapid Support Forces was announced in Nairobi yesterday, Saturday, and included a signature in the name of the National Umma Party without referring to the party’s institutions.” He added, “The charter contains texts on crucial issues that conflict with the party’s orientations, such as secularism and self-determination. These are issues that require broad discussion, national consensus, and a popular mandate that expresses the will of the Sudanese people.”
He added, “As is known, the party’s positions are announced through its institutions, which have previously taken a clear decision on its stance on the war and the forming a government from any party and in any place.” He also confirmed the decision of the Coordination Council issued on August 31 of last year, which was held under the chairmanship of the president-designate.

In light of this signing, the party’s institutions will meet to consider this matter and announce the party’s position to public opinion.
