Sudan and the UAE agree on Erdogan’s initiative

Foreign Minister Dr. Ali Youssef Al-Sharif described the Turkish initiative as important and wonderful, praising the wisdom of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who launched it, stressing that it came from a country with regional influence.
He pointed out that Erdogan did not put forward this initiative until after thorough study.

This came during a brainstorming meeting organized by journalist Jamal Ankara at his home in Cairo, where Al-Sharif affirmed that Turkey obtained the approval of both Sudan and the UAE before the official announcement of the initiative.
He criticized the Emirati statement issued in response to the Turkish initiative, stressing that it was not successful.

Al-Sharif also indicated that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will arrive in Port Sudan to present the details of the Turkish initiative.

Regarding the ceasefire in Sudan, Al-Sharif stressed the necessity of the withdrawal of militias from civilian facilities as a basic condition for the solution, and stressed that the main goal is the return of the homeland and its stability.

He also referred to conflicts between political forces – which he did not name – seeking power without caring about the suffering of the Sudanese people.
In the context of his speech, Al-Sharif wondered about the UAE’s motives towards Sudan, stressing the need to answer the pivotal question: “What does the UAE want from Sudan?”, hinting at possibilities related to ports, or the exploitation of Al-Fashaga agricultural lands, or gold, stressing that every country seeks to maximize its interests.

Al-Sharif stressed the impossibility of the return of militia leader Hemidti or his brother Abdel Rahim Daglo to the political scene, explaining that the Sudanese people will not accept them again.

At the end of his speech, Al-Sharif referred to the existence of an Egyptian initiative revealed by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Gibril Ibrahim, explaining that it is moving forward after President Burhan approved it during his recent visit to Port Sudan.
