Gulf States condemn RSF militia targeting of Saudi hospital in El-Fasher
The Saudi Foreign Ministry expressed the Kingdom’s condemnation and denunciation of the targeting of the Saudi hospital in the Sudanese city of El-Fasher, which resulted in the killing and wounding of a number of people “in violation of international law and international humanitarian law.”
The Foreign Ministry affirmed Saudi Arabia’s rejection of these violations, stressing the need to provide protection for workers in the health and humanitarian fields, the importance of self-restraint, avoiding targeting civilians, and implementing what was signed in the “Jeddah Declaration” regarding the commitment to protect civilians in Sudan.
Saudi Arabia expressed its “sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the deceased, and its wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.”
For his part, Darfur Region Governor, Minni Arko Minnawi, stated yesterday that at least 70 people were killed in the attack on a hospital in the city of El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State.
Jassim Mohammed Al-Badawi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, also expressed his strong condemnation and denunciation of the attack that targeted the Saudi hospital in the city of El-Fasher.
The Secretary-General stressed that this targeting represents a flagrant and serious violation of international laws, treaties and UN resolutions, which require the protection of civilians and civilian facilities, including health facilities.
He called for the need to provide full protection for medical personnel and health facilities in Sudan, to enable them to perform their humanitarian duties to the fullest extent, especially in light of the harsh conditions experienced by the brotherly Sudanese people.
Al-Badawi stressed the importance of respecting international and humanitarian laws, and the need to hold accountable those responsible for these violations that threaten the lives of innocent people and hinder humanitarian efforts.
For its part, the State of Qatar expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the targeting of the Saudi hospital in the city of El Fasher.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered, in a statement today, that the bombing of the hospital represents a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which aims to ensure the safety of patients and medical personnel working in hospitals, and to preserve health facilities in times of war, and called on the international community to take urgent action to protect civilian objects.
The Ministry expressed the State of Qatar’s condolences to the families of the victims and the government and people of the Republic of Sudan, and its wishes for a speedy recovery for the wounded.
The UAE also strongly condemned and denounced the targeting of the Saudi hospital in the city of El Fasher, which constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.
Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, stressed the UAE’s position calling for a peaceful solution to the conflict, the need for an immediate ceasefire, not targeting civilians and civilian institutions, and the need to protect medical facilities, institutions and health sector workers, stressing the need not to be a target of the conflict.
He called on all parties to respect their legal and humanitarian obligations in accordance with the Jeddah Declaration and in accordance with the mechanisms of the “Allied to Promote Life-Saving and Peace in Sudan” platform, and the need to take immediate steps to protect civilians and avoid aggravating the humanitarian situation, stressing the importance of collective action to achieve peace and stability in Sudan.
