Feel It: The Land of Light

Local and international fears are increasing day by day that the war in Sudan will spread to archaeological areas and World Heritage sites in Sudan.
Al-Naqa’a and Al-Masourat are among the most prominent protected archaeological sites, with buildings dating back about three thousand years, and they have been on the list of human heritage since 2011.
These archaeological areas are of paramount importance, not only to Sudan but to the whole world, because there are sciences in them that have not yet been discovered, as “the transition of war to this region is a great crime.”
Naqa’a, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, witnessed two incidents of RSF entry, the first on December 3, 2023, and the second time on January 14.
During the 25th family visit to the distinguished Karama Museum, attendees were honored to delve into rich historical narratives, particularly those pertaining to the esteemed kings of Kush, illustrious rulers of the world, and guardians of time itself. It is imperative to extend our profound gratitude to the often unsung heroes within the Antiquities and Museums Authority, who diligently safeguard our priceless treasures under challenging circumstances. Among these dedicated professionals is Dr. Mahmoud, an exemplary figure, who serves as the director of the Bagrawia site. Despite significant risks, he courageously ventured to Naqa’a , facilitating the extraction of several invaluable antiquities, thereby ensuring their preservation for future generations.
The commendable endeavors of Abdel-Maged, the director of the Karama Museum, are noteworthy, as he relentlessly strives to develop and protect this vital institution. In addition, the efforts of Sami in Barkal and Karima contribute immeasurably to the cultural heritage conservation.
It is essential for private sector companies to recognize their critical role in supporting our shared history and civilization, as such contributions are invaluable and greatly deserving of attention and assistance. Indeed, our land, characterized as the land of light, will forever remain a beacon of illumination and cultural significance.
