The Federal Emergency Operations Center convened a crucial meeting in the emergency hall located at the esteemed Public Health Laboratory in Kassala city. The focal point of the meeting was an in-depth review of the prevailing health situation across the nation, particularly focusing on the comprehensive interventions undertaken by various departments within the Ministry of Health to combat and mitigate the spread of epidemics. Noteworthy progress has been witnessed, leading to a significant reduction in both cholera and dengue fever cases.

Specifically, the latest epidemiological report on cholera highlighted the identification of 127 new cases, encompassing two tragic fatalities. This brings the cumulative total to 47,366 recorded infections and 1,235 reported deaths, primarily concentrated in 11 out of the 81 local states.

Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, the acting Minister of Health , issued precise directives for a comprehensive report on the health situation in the White Nile region in response to the cholera epidemic. Detailed assessments of the ongoing interventions, urgent requirements, and progress updates in preparation for the imminent return to Sennar State were mandated. Additionally, a special report was requested to document the extensive services and facilities being provided.

Significant emphasis was placed on the pivotal role of laboratories and the meticulous examination processes essential for accurate diagnosis and surveillance. This emphasizes the criticality of robust laboratory infrastructure in effectively combating and monitoring infectious diseases.
