Attorney General meets the Prosecutor of the International Criminal ا

Attorney General, Hon. Al-Fateh Muhammad Issa Tayfour affirmed Sudan’s commitment to achieving accountability and combating impunity, pointing out that the investigations have made great progress within the framework of the National Committee for the Investigation of Crimes and Violations of National Law and Humanitarian Law, as arrest warrants were issued and the General Secretariat of Interpol was addressed to issue red notices to prosecute the accused in the crimes and atrocities that occurred since April 15, 2024, especially in Darfur.

This came during his meeting and the accompanying delegation with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Ahmed Khan, at the court’s headquarters in The Hague.
Hon. Tayfour thanked the Office of the Prosecutor for the invitation to visit the Criminal Court and discuss the easiest ways for cooperation.
The visit coincided with the final pleadings of the prosecution and defense pleadings for the trial of the accused Ali Muhammad Ali Abdel Rahman, known as Ali Kushayb.
For his part, the Prosecutor General of the Court expressed his thanks for accepting the invitation and cooperating with the Office of the Prosecutor and facilitating visits by delegations from the Court, stressing the Court’s openness to all options that would achieve justice and enhance cooperation with Sudan and its judicial bodies in implementation of the principle of complementarity.
During the visit, the Prosecutor General also met with the representative of the President of the International Criminal Court, Judge Heikal bin Mahfouz, who welcomed the delegation’s visit, stressing the interest of the Presidency of the Court in the relationship with Sudan and its desire to continue it within the framework of the principle of complementarity and respect for Sudan’s sovereignty and independence, expressing his appreciation for the solidity and long history of the judicial system in Sudan.
In addition, the Prosecutor General provided an enlightenment to the Sudanese community in The Hague during the meeting organized by the embassy on the efforts of the National Committee to Investigate Crimes and Violations of National Law and International Humanitarian Law, where he revealed the efforts made to prosecute the accused rebel leaders and their collaborators through the national judiciary and relevant international laws, stressing the adoption of an approach to accountability in accordance with the requirements of a fair trial and the principles of the rule of law and non-impunity.
