Al-Burhan receives the UN envoy

Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, 1st. Lt. Gen. Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, met today with the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ramtane Lamamra. In the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ali Youssef.

Al-Burhan affirmed Sudan’s commitment to joint work with the United Nations and to formulating a common vision for the future of work in all fields. Noting the commitment of the Government of Sudan to protect civilians from the brutality of the terrorist rebel RSFv militia, calling on the United Nations and the international community to exert pressure on the rebel militia and condemn the violations it is practicing more strictly and clearly.

Al-Burhan stressed during the meeting the need for the international system to take decisive and deterrent action against the countries that stand behind the rebels and support them.

His Excellency also called on the United Nations system to take the necessary measures regarding the failure to implement the Security Council resolutions to stop the entry of weapons into the Darfur region and stop the attack on the city of El Fasher.

Al-Burhan said that if citizens return to their homes and villages, the political process will be initiated and elections will be held in which the Sudanese people will decide their political future without external interference.
