UNSC Expert Panel Reviewes Interior Ministry’s Efforts to Protect Civilians

Interior Minister, Major General (Police), Khalil Pasha Sayrin, praised the field visits of the UN Security Council Expert Team concerned with implementing Resolution 1591.
This came when he received the UN delegation at the headquarters of his ministry, accompanied by the head and members of the National Coordination for Follow-up of the Resolution, affiliated with the Supreme Committee for Coordination with the United Nations, headed by the member of the Sovereigntyunique Council, Assistant Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Engineer Ibrahim Jaber.

Major General Sayrin added that the visit of the expert team came within the framework of field visits to determine the extent of commitment to the provisions included in Resolution 1591, indicating that the meeting addressed topics related to the Ministry of Interior, including the protection of civilians and the efforts made by the Sudanese government to facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid, noting that the Ministry of Interior is constantly working to facilitate passport and immigration procedures, grant entry visas to UN employees, and facilitate customs clearance procedures at ports and airports.
The Minister also renewed Sudan’s welcome to the team of experts, especially since the results of this visit may be more realistic and closely related to the real situation in Darfur, unlike the previous report that was based on information obtained from neighboring countries, noting that the current situation, especially in Darfur, may require assistance from the United Nations to provide protection in circumstances of war and conflict, especially since the ongoing war requires more tools and mechanisms.
