Deputy Head of the Sovereignty Council meets Secretary-General of the Norwegian Refugee Council

Deputy Head President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Commander Malik Agar Ayre, met in his office in Port Sudan yesterday with Mr. John Egeland, Secretary-General of the Norwegian Refugee Council.

The meeting discussed the overall humanitarian situation in Sudan and ways to provide humanitarian assistance to those who deserve it.

Agar affirmed Sudan’s keenness and full commitment to working to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those who deserve it and facilitate the work of relief teams and employees of organizations working in the humanitarian field.

He pointed out the movements and violations carried out by the Council in Darfur, especially the lack of coordination with governmental and official bodies.
For his part the Secretary-General of the Norwegian Council pledged not to repeat the matter again and to seek to enhance cooperation and joint coordination in order to provide humanitarian assistance to those who deserve it.

The Secretary-General of the Council said that the meeting discussed the mechanism for providing humanitarian needs and relief to the largest possible number in the current situation in Sudan, in light of the armed conflict and violence against civilians, pointing to the urgent need for humanitarian assistance.

He stressed their desire to provide such assistance throughout Sudan and to all communities, indicating that the Council works in a neutral, impartial and independent manner in providing the necessary support to people in need of assistance.
