Al-Burhan meets Special Envoy of the Kingdom of Norway to Sudan

Head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, 1st. Lt. Gen. Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan met yesterday with the Special Envoy of the Kingdom of Norway to Sudan, Mr. Andrea Astaisen, in the presence of the Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Omar Issa.

Ambassador Omar Issa, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a press statement that the meeting was positive, as many issues related to humanitarian aid and the process of facilitating its delivery to Sudan were discussed, in addition to developments in the political process.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “The Head of the Sovereignty Council clearly stressed during the meeting the government’s keenness to provide facilities to all organizations and all countries that provide humanitarian aid to Sudan.
His Excellency also directed all relevant authorities to activate and facilitate the necessary procedures in this regard.

The Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs indicated that the meeting touched on the course of the political process, adding that some ideas were put forward during the meeting, noting that the envoy’s visit is his second to Sudan and that he will hold a number of meetings with the Sudanese side.

For his part, the Special Envoy of the Kingdom of Norway to Sudan explained that the meeting was positive and fruitful and addressed many issues related to humanitarian aid and the course of the current political process, stressing his country’s interest in the humanitarian situation and supporting and providing aid to the Sudanese people.
He said, “We have presented proposals that can push and contribute to providing humanitarian aid.”

The Norwegian envoy expressed his appreciation for the Sudanese government and its keenness to open the Adre border crossing to deliver humanitarian aid, describing this step as important.

The envoy denounced the crimes and atrocities committed in Al-Jazeera State and other areas. “We particularly condemn the violations against women and children,” he said, stressing that the killing of innocent civilians is a clear violation of international law and human rights law, calling for the perpetrators of these crimes to be punished.
