Shendi: Samia Osman calls for community investigation and immediate reporting to contain the spread of epidemics

The Director of the General Administration of Health and Population in Shendi Locality, Samia Osman Ahmed, revealed that Shendi Locality has the lowest rate of watery diarrhea, refuting what was rumored about the existence of a case of diphtheria in Shendi Locality, confirming that the locality is free of any negative health phenomena.
She confirmed during the workshop on strengthening the community-based surveillance system, organized by the General Administration of Health and Population in Shendi Locality, Preventive Medicine and Epidemic Control Department, in coordination with the Ministry of Health in River Nile State, General Administration of Preventive Medicine, Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control Department, in cooperation with UNICEF, which was launched for three days during the period (10-12) of this October at the Northern Girls School in Shendi Locality, under the auspices of the Minister of Health in charge of River Nile State, Dr. Magda Abdullah, under the slogan (Together we can), she confirmed that the war has negative and positive aspects, pointing to the high population density and overcrowding in the locality due to displacement from the states affected by the war, stressing that the aim of the workshop is to investigate diseases and immediately report any disease to the Health Department to limit the spread of epidemics and diseases in the locality in order to preserve the health and safety of citizens.

She called on the workshop participants to investigate any information, even if it is small, and submit it to the Health Department to make rapid interventions to limit its spread, in partnership with immediate reporting or within 24 hours. Samia Osman Ahmed welcomed the delegation of the Ministry of Health in River Nile State, represented by Samia Omar Ahmed, Director of Emergency and Epidemic Control at the Ministry of Health in River Nile State, Zamzam Omar Tutu, Head of Event-Based Surveillance at the Ministry of Health, and Rania Mohamed Saleh, Emergency and Surveillance Department at the Ministry of Health. She appreciated the efforts of UNICEF in supporting the workshop, and appreciated the efforts of the Minister of Health in the state and the Executive Director of Shendi Locality, Khalid Al-Ghafar, for their interest and keenness on the health and safety of citizens.
She praised the role of the medical team of the Emergency and Epidemic Management and the Malaria Department in the locality, in combating disease vectors and promoting health and environmental sanitation in the locality.
She expressed appreciation to the General Intelligence Service for supporting campaigns to combat disease vectors and promote health and environmental sanitation.
For their part, the Director of Emergency and Epidemic Control at the Ministry of Health in River Nile State, Samia Omar Ahmed, and Zamzam Omar Toto, the official responsible for event-based surveillance at the Ministry of Health, gave lectures on community-based surveillance, diseases, how to prevent them, and immediate reporting to the local health department of any sudden disease to limit its spread.
They presented a report on diseases and their risks, sudden acute watery diarrhea, sand flies, diphtheria, the five syndromes: sudden acute watery diarrhea syndrome, hemorrhagic fever syndrome, acute nervous syndrome, acute respiratory syndrome, acute jaundice syndrome, fraenid worm, measles, and other diseases.
Zamzam Omar Toto, the official in charge of event-based surveillance at the Ministry of Health, explained that the goal of community surveillance is to make an appropriate decision at an appropriate time for early detection, limiting the spread of epidemics, and identifying the groups most exposed to the disease.
The students confirmed the benefit of the workshop, stressing full cooperation with the Ministry of Health and keenness to investigate information and immediately report any disease case.
For his part, the Director of the Department of Culture and Information in Shendi Locality, Babiker Al-Sayed, pledged to support all activities of the Health Department and to educate citizens about epidemics and how to limit their spread and the necessity of immediate reporting of disease cases to expedite intervention to control epidemics and limit their spread and work under the slogan (Hand in hand, distant gathering), praising the efforts of the Director of the General Department of Health and Population in Shendi Locality, Samia Osman Ahmed, and carrying out her duties in full.
